I have had the great pleasure of getting to know Mike this spring. I took this photograph of him on the edge of his garden. He is a modest man who works hard but does not like to admit it. In the summertime he and his children garden, hunt and fish; in the fall they gather berries. Berries become jams. Tomatoes and yellow squashes, beans and peppers must be canned or frozen, root vegetables and winter squashes must be stored for the winter. The fish and game will be smoked and dried or frozen. Sport? No. Hard work, the kind one can take pride in, the kind that feeds the family during the winter to come.
